SHERRIÉ AUSTIN
“The poorest person today is the person without a dream.”--Anonymous
“Let your dreams guide your life.” It’s a wonderful thought, but for most of us, dreams seem to fall away with childhood as adult realities take hold. Even those that possess the talent to fulfill them, sometimes lose their way, leaving them to wonder, “what if…” But for Sherrié Austin, (born Sherrié Veronica Krenn) the eldest daughter of a three-sibling blue-collar household of modest means, life was rich with opportunity on the road less traveled—an unwavering path to stardom forged with passion, vision, curiosity, talent and integrity, reinforced by the full commitment of family who embraced that dream.
Growing up in Townsville, Australia, a dot on the map, Austin spent countless hours reading books and enjoying the traditional sounds of the country legends such as Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash, Loretta Lynn and Willie Nelson. Her passion for music and the written word developed not as a hobby, but as a way to pass the idle hours of small town living.
“I was such a nerd,” jokes Austin. “I would spend all my time in my room writing poetry, reading books and playing the guitar. My parents would literally have to kick me out to go to school dances.”
By her “tween” years, Austin’s natural talent was immediately recognized and embraced by mentors, friends and especially family, who urged her to perform at every opportunity.
